Well, this is a normal question to all students all over the world. Why are you going to school? For what purpose? The thing is, most students don't realize/don't know what's their purpose by going to school/college. You want to be rich? Well, to tell you the truth, there are some billionaire in the world that had dropped out from their school/college. What's the meaning of this? It means that you don't have to study physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and whatnot just to be rich. Just be creative and polish your talent, no need for school.
Or do you want to make your parents happy by having titles? A PhD maybe? Most college students will answer this if they're being asked "Why do you go to college?"
Maybe they really want to make your parents happy, but let's think about it this way, if you just want to make your parents happy, how about your own happiness? Let's say your parents wants you to take Medical Education, and you want to make them happy, but sadly your brain is too poor to remember all the illness' name, what's causing them, and the latin name of the virus/bacteria associated with the illness. Conclusion : You got E in all of your chosen subject. And what now? Still think that your parents will be happy seeing you like this? Well, suit yourself.
Oh and there's another reason that I, as the writer of this post, heard (learnt, actually) from my lecturer. We go to school/college to get a girlfriend! Wow! This is the most enigmatic reason of all. But sadly, some of my friend (this is real story) said this too. They are looking for a girlfriend in college. Well, if you want to waste 4 years in college just for searching a mating partner in the future then be my guest. I won't comment on this too much since I'm no relationship/love expert.
Lastly, what are you going to do in college, or what's your reason to go to college is entirely up to you. We're already a grown up, just 4 more years and we'll be one with the society (if you could graduate just in time). We're expected to know what's right and wrong, what's important and not. I just wish those that read this post could think about it for a while, and decide what's best for ourselves. Thank you

ReplyDeletefor me, at least : college is just a mandatory obligation. you need that 'license' to get job. not saying without that you cant do job. at least you have a 'proper' job with that 'license'. other than that? just to waste my time so I'm not bored.
for my parent's happiness? nah, I wont think that much. fun fact : it's either we (the young) die first or our parents die first. no need to think about that really. you want to make them happy, make yourself happy without being a parasite to their life. fact, straight from the experience.

:P you seriously need to find it? make yourself some money and girls will flocking around you.
it's not about we're a grown up person. but we are mature enough to find the reason of whatever things we do in our life. I see lot of people self-proclaim themselves that they are grown up dudes yet they dont have any reason for whatever thing they did in their life.
while, some, that considered society's trash is happy with their life. they have reason, they strive for it, and they happy with it.
here's the tips :
dont let anyone dictate you. you can hear opinions but you are the actor of your life, protagonist of your own story. you must dictate yourself, not let other dictate you. capable to do that, congratulation : you are happy dude.
all those reasoning I've mentioned above is just typical answers of "nowadays" students

ReplyDeleteso, after giving it some thought, the main reason for going to college will be to gain experience you don't get in high school (at least that's my reason). Well sure they teach you lots of stuff in high school, but let's face it, we're probably not going to remember most of those stuff in about 3 to 4 years.
I don't think about being rich by going to college, as long as I can live normally that's fine (but that doesn't mean I don't want to be rich XD it would be nice though lol). I never actually thought about going to college for my parent's happiness because I choose to go myself, and my parent's support me for it. And getting girlfriends? Seriously? You could do that in high school, neighborhood, or even at your work place, there's no need to go to college just for that. Well, I've never been in a relationship and haven't even thought about it, so I guess it's different for everyone XD
Oh and nice blog btw, but you might want to edit the banner, imo it's kind of.. plain.. The other designs are good but something about that banner doesn't quite feel right with me. Maybe it's the font, but it's just my opinion :)

This, I don't (fully) agree. You don't have to complete your study/ education or whatever you call it, lol, if you just want to blend w/ the society.

The reason we spent 18 years or more just for studying are getting more knowledge and develop your way of thinking, those are the very first reasons, but nowadays people make more and more weird, unnecessary, such reason you have mentioned because they don't get the real meaning of studying.

Exams, quizzes, practicums, and other paper works are the enemies/monsters, the professors are our guides or the NPCs to teach us how to do this and that, our friends there help us if we're in trouble, the potions are our break time, the upgrades in our weapons and armors are our proof that we gained knowledge to step up to the next level and there are many other more that we could relate to.
